Robert Pettyjohn - Policy & Governance
Robert Pettyjohn is a veteran leader in mold, indoor air quality, and restoration, with decades of experience spanning environmental contamination response, mold consulting, and professional training. He is associated with Pettyjohn's Cleaning & Restoration and Pettyjohn's Indoor Environmental in North Carolina, and holds senior training roles with NORMI Pro.
Bob is especially recognized for his leadership within the IICRC. Elected to the Board of Directors in 2016, he served as a board member from 2017–2018 and later as Secretary of the IICRC Board and Executive Committee during the 2021–2022 term — placing him directly within the governance structure shaping industry standards in water damage restoration and mold remediation.
Ken Siders - Policy & Governance
Ken Siders is a nationally recognized authority in environmental contamination, building science, and complex remediation strategy, with more than two decades of field and advisory experience. He has held senior leadership roles at ETA Environmental and HouseCheck Environmental Consultants, and is widely regarded for identifying underlying environmental failure mechanisms where conventional methods fall short.
Ken has played a significant role in large-scale disaster response, with direct involvement in post-event environmental assessments following Hurricanes Michael, Florence, Dorian, and Ida. His professional foundation includes extensive IICRC tenure and advanced certifications across microbial remediation, hazardous materials, and environmental assessment. He has contributed to technical education through IAQ Radio and industry training programs.
Patrick Berryessa - Technical Advisory
Patrick Berryessa is the Chief Technology Officer for Extreme Microbial Technologies (EMT), specializing in Energized Hydrogen Peroxide (eH₂O₂) air and surface purification technologies. Since 2019, he has led the development, validation, and deployment of active microbial reduction systems across residential, commercial, and institutional environments.
With a foundation at Ecolab in infection control and applied chemistry, Patrick worked alongside U.S. military and government entities during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic to implement active purification strategies. He later supported major hurricane recovery projects with RAM Restoration USA. A former U.S. Marine Corps FAST Company member, Patrick brings a mission-focused mindset to advancing exposure-informed standards within PEPN.
Barry Mankin - Technical Advisory
Barry Mankin is the owner of 4 Corners Home Inspections and 4 Corners Environmental in Nashville, Tennessee. With more than 25 years of experience — beginning in contracting and property management — Barry has built a reputation for identifying complex indoor environmental concerns through a root-cause, building science-based approach. He evaluates homes as complete systems, focusing on how each component influences building performance, indoor air quality, and occupant health.
His expertise spans mold and mycotoxins, moisture intrusion, VOCs, radon, and water quality. Barry is also the host of The Holistic Home Health Podcast with Barry Mankin (aka Dr. House), bridging the gap between the medical community and the construction industry.
Jennifer Nitrio - Technical Advisory
Jennifer serves on the PEPN Advisory Board, blending extensive professional training with unique personal experience in indoor environmental quality. She is a Certified Microbial Professional, Biotoxin Professional, and Remediator for Sensitized Individuals, focusing on the intricate links between indoor environments, biologic particulates, and moisture-driven contamination.
Her expertise also covers mycotoxins, bacteria, and indoor particulate dynamics, guiding practical environmental stabilization. As a member of ISSA and the International Society for Environmentally Acquired Illness, Jennifer provides a compassionate, real-world perspective, stemming from her own mold and environmental exposure crisis, to help individuals navigate complex indoor environmental concerns.
Jeffrey A. Oelrich - Technical Advisory
Jeffrey A. Oelrich is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and the founder of Environmental Hygiene Solutions, LLC (EHSolutions). He specializes in the assessment, characterization, and management of complex Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) challenges, with specialized expertise in exposure pathways related to Environmentally Acquired Illnesses (EAI).
As a Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC) and Certified Environmental Allergen Consultant (CEAC), Mr. Oelrich approaches indoor environments as dynamic, interconnected systems. Rather than relying on simple, isolated testing, he integrates detailed field observations, quantitative measurements, laboratory analytics, and core building science principles to evaluate how environmental stressors interact to impact occupant health.
Having conducted thousands of environmental assessments, Mr. Oelrich employs systematic, multi-factor analysis to evaluate contaminant sources, transport pathways, environmental reservoirs, and occupant exposure risk. His evidence-based approach moves beyond mere identification to reveal true root causes, allowing him to deliver clear, practical, and scientifically defensible strategies that safeguard health while accommodating the practical constraints of built environments.

Skip Jankoski - Founder & Protocol Director
Skip Jankoski is President of Purified Environments, a Santa Barbara, California-based company specializing in indoor environmental assessment, biologic contamination characterization, indoor air quality management, and exposure-focused environmental intervention within water-damaged and environmentally compromised buildings.
He is the developer and author of the PEPN- HEART™ Protocol (Health & Environmental Assessment for Recovery & Tolerance), an operational framework that applies principles of healthcare diagnostics, exposure science, contamination control, aerosol physics, and objective environmental measurement to the occupied built environment. The protocol evaluates buildings as interconnected exposure systems in which air, dust, surfaces, furnishings, HVAC systems, moisture dynamics, and occupant interaction collectively influence environmental exposure. Skip is also Co-Founder of PEPNTM (Purified Environments Provider NetworkTM), an emerging independent governance alliance dedicated to advancing the science and practice of environmental health through education, standardized methodologies, quality assurance, objective verification, and professional accountability. Before entering the environmental health profession, Skip spent more than two decades in healthcare, serving in medical therapeutics, implantable medical devices, laboratory diagnostics, and biotechnology. That background shaped an evidence-based approach that applies the principles of clinical diagnostics— objective measurement, exposure characterization, verification, and data-driven decision-making—to environmental health. His professional interests include microbial ecology, bioaerosol dynamics, particulate transport, HVAC performance, environmental measurement, and the influence of
biologically active environmental agents—including microbial fragments, endotoxins, actinobacteria, β- glucans, and fine particulate matter—on occupant exposure within the built environment.
Today, Skip focuses on helping integrate building science, exposure science, aerosol physics, environmental measurement, and healthcare principles into a practical operational framework for environmental health. Through the PEPN-HEARTTM Protocol and the emerging PEPNTM Governance Alliance, he is advancing an operational framework in which success is measured not only by structural correction, but also by the objective characterization, meaningful reduction, and verification of biologically relevant environmental exposure within occupied buildings.
Chris Remy-Thomas - Founder & Operations
Chris Remy-Thomas is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of PEPN™ (Purified Environments Provider Network™) and the Owner of Vital Environments™, where he applies operational excellence and systems thinking to advance the field of indoor environmental health.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Accounting. He has further pursued graduate-level education in biotoxin illness through George Washington University, and holds professional certifications including CMA, CMR, NCRSI, reflecting his commitment to rigorous, evidence-based practice in environmental health.
With an extensive background in executive leadership, Chris brings a systems-based approach to organizational development, translating complex frameworks into scalable, repeatable processes. His experience spanning multiple industries informs his ability to build cohesive infrastructure that supports both practitioners and clients.
At PEPN™, Chris has been instrumental in developing the network's provider education programs, professional standards, and quality assurance systems. His work ensures that PEPN™-affiliated providers operate with consistency, accountability, and alignment to the PEPN-HEART™Protocol.

Shelley Federico - Founder & Vision
Shelley Federico brings over 16 years of experience at the intersection of environmental health, military housing, medicine, and public policy. Her journey began when her own family fell ill while living in water-damaged military housing — a personal crisis that became the catalyst for a lifelong mission.
Her landmark federal lawsuit, Federico v. Lincoln Military Housing, broke new ground by introducing NeuroQuant and NeuroGage neuroimaging evidence into court — objective, data-driven proof of biological harm caused by toxic exposure in housing environments.
Shelley played a pivotal role in bringing the military housing crisis to national attention, working with major media outlets and advocating directly before Congress to demand accountability and systemic reform for affected military families.
Through this work, Shelley identified a critical divide: medicine and remediation were operating in silos, leaving patients and families without a coherent path to recovery. PEPN™ was built specifically to bridge that gap — connecting clinical health outcomes with environmental remediation standards.
